Castr Captioning lets you automatically generate live captions for your livestreams and translate them into additional languages. You can choose the spoken language of the stream, select the languages you want to publish, and control how long captioning remains active.
During the beta period, 10 hours of captioning are included for free. This allowance may change after the beta period.
How to set up captioning
Open Captioning
From the Castr dashboard, select Captioning from the sidebar.Create a new captioning flow
Click + New captioning.Select your livestream
Choose the livestream you want to generate captions for. You can use the search field to quickly find a stream.Once the captioning flow is created, the linked livestream cannot be changed. To caption a different stream, you will need to delete the existing captioning flow and create a new one.
Select the source language
Under Source language, select the language being spoken in your livestream. This helps Castr accurately generate the original captions and translations.Choose the caption languages
Under Caption languages, select the languages you want to make available to your viewers.The source language can be included as a caption language, and additional languages will be translated live. You can currently select up to 4 caption languages.
Set the captioning duration
Choose how long you want captioning to remain active. Available duration options include 15 minutes, 1 hour, 4 hours, 24 hours, or Unlimited.The selected duration begins when you start captioning and continues for that time window. You can extend the duration while captioning is running.
Start captioning
Click Start captions.Castr will begin processing the livestream and making the captions available in the player.
Manage captioning while it is running
Once captioning has started, the Caption settings panel shows the remaining time for the current captioning window.You can extend the active window using the available time extensions, such as +15 min, +30 min, or +60 min. You can also click Stop captions at any time if you no longer need captioning for the stream.
Viewing captions
Once captioning is active, captions will appear in the Castr player after the livestream is routed through the captioning service.
Captions are generated while the stream has viewers, so keep a player open when testing the feature.
Viewers can then use the caption controls in the player to access the available caption languages.
Changing caption settings
While captions are running, you can update supported caption settings from the Caption settings panel. Saving a change may briefly restart the captioning process while keeping the existing captioning window active.
You can also see the remaining captioning time directly from the stream page.
Beta availability
Captioning is currently available as a Beta feature.
During the beta period, each account will receive 10 hours of free captioning usage. The available allowance and pricing model are expected to change after the beta period.
